This article discusses a benefit of cellulosic ethanol production that should be receiving more publicity. The perennial grasses and trees that could be used as feedstock do not require large amounts of nitrogen fertilizers. Widespresad production then, could reduce the “dead zone” in the Gulf of Mexico caused by fertilizer runnoff from corn and other annual row crops.
